Resurgent Medvedev Claims First Title in Nearly 30 Months
19 of Daniil Medvedev's 21 victories have been won on hardcourt
A resurgent the Russian player secured his initial championship for 882 days with a win over Frenchman Moutet in the tournament championship match.
Medvedev, a former world number one, has endured a torrid season, achieving just one match at the big events and undergoing a setback at the US Open.
His inconsistency on the ATP Tour - and issues with his service game in especial - caused him falling of the top ten and finally splitting with former trainer Cervara.
Now working with Johansson and Goetzke, Medvedev has steadily improved in the last few weeks - culminating in a hard-fought competitive triumph over challenger Moutet.
This represents the player's first title since the 2023 Rome Masters and first on a hard surface after that period of 2023.
Success also means the Russian has secured 21 championships at twenty-one various competitions.
"This marks the first occasion I have attended a tournament with my both daughters at once, so to win a title is really nice," stated tennis professional Daniil Medvedev.
"This title is in honour of my child Victoria, because the first title I won when my first daughter my daughter was delivered was for her."
Medvedev, the former major winner, had been defeated in his last six title deciders, featuring in the German tournament earlier this year.
The player's counter-punching play style and regular outbursts on court had led some to question if his ability to play at the top level was concluded.
However the 29-year-old has made changes in the past month, attempting to approach the net and perform positively, backed up by an enhanced service.
The champion came back from a deficit in the opening set against the tricky Moutet, securing 4 of the last five exchanges to gain the advantage.
Both players traded service breaks in the middle set before the Frenchman, striving for his first ATP Tour victory, gained dominance to push for a decider.
He defended four early-game opportunities in a competitive third set before the champion broke to fifteen to serve for the match.
Fittingly, Medvedev clinched victory with a shot at the net area, with Moutet failing to control a shot after two hours and 38 minutes.
